An interactive workflow that turns your P&IDs into a structured, exportable instrument index.
01
PIDVision combines AI object detection with OCR text extraction to automatically read your P&ID diagrams. You draw a box around a region of the drawing, and PIDVision instantly identifies every instrument inside it — its type, tag number, and line number — then lets you save that data with a single keystroke.
A pretrained AI model recognizes instrument symbols such as transmitters, valves, and indicators, and draws a colored box around each one.
For every detection, OCR reads the surrounding text — the tag number, line number, and any comment — directly off the diagram.
02
Once PIDVision analyzes a region, each box is color-coded by its role:
Red outline
Main capture-group instruments — valve types, transmitters, and other hardware you want to record.
Green outline
Association-group objects — tag-number regions, comment blocks, and context labels.
Light-green crop rectangle
A saved instrument group. The orange crop box you drew turns light green once it’s saved.
03
This is the heart of PIDVision — a manual, controlled process that gives you full command over exactly what gets captured.
Step 1 — Draw a crop region
Left-click and drag a rectangle around the area of the P&ID you want to capture. On release, PIDVision runs the AI model and OCR on just that region.
Step 2 — See detections instantly
Colored boxes and labels appear on the canvas showing every detected instrument and its extracted tag, tag number, line number, and comment.
Step 3 — Fill in group context
Enter the shared details for this region in the entry fields — PID document number, line, service in/out, equipment, and any comment. These apply to every instrument in the group.
Step 4 — Save with W
Press W to save the group in a single action. PIDVision wraps all the staged instrument data (including the group-level fields you just entered) into a saved group, and the orange crop rectangle turns light green to confirm it’s stored.
Step 5 — Move between pages
Use N and B to go to the next or previous page, or jump directly using the PID dropdown / page-number field. Saved groups follow you and redraw on each page.
Step 6 — Persist your work
Press Ctrl+S (or File → Save Page Data) to write everything to disk. PIDVision also auto-saves backups as you work, keeping your last five snapshots safe.

PIDVision slots into your daily P&ID work without replacing your review judgment:
